The Rain forest is the most bio-diverse terrestrial biome on Earth.
Their are thousands to millions of each of the different animal kingdoms in the rainforest, and thousands that are still undiscovered!
The thing that makes this biome unique is the amount of rainfall it has, 158 inches (about 4 meters) per year!
There are 3 layers in the rain forest, the canopy, the understory, and the forest floor.
The average climate ranges from 80-100 degrees F.
Wildlife include: mammals such as monkeys, sloths, and large apes, reptiles such as lizards, constricting snakes, and small turtles, amphibians include the salamander and the poisonous frogs, and there are many insects and decomposers on the forest floor.
The plant life give this biome its appearance from the small shrubs and flowers on the bottom, to the vines and parasitic plants attaching to the trunks of trees, to the summits of massive trees up to 200 feet tall and 16 feet wide at the top!!
Adaptations
Plants on the forest floor do not get much sunlight because of the dense vegetation above it, so these plants grow larger leaves to get more sunlight reaching it.
Also, some vines and parasitic plants climb up the trunks of tall trees to reach the valuable sunlight touching the canopy.
Another interesting adaptation in the rain forest are the plants having drip tip leaves which flow water off the plants to keep from being weighed down by the heavy rainfall.
